Noko heilt anna: Psykologi og engelske gloser ( kvardagsproblematikk)

 

Dagens psykologi lekse var en ti siders artikkel på engelsk. Altså en, i utgangspunktet, kort sak. Sjøl om eg er over gjennomsnittet stødig i engelsk så fant eg en fascinerende mengde ukjente ord! Et par av de fant eg heller ingen forklaring på. Forslag mottas med takk. Here goes:

 

Altruism- the quality of considering the well-being and happiness of others before yourself.

Ambiguous- having more than one interpretation.

Assimilate-  1. To allow people to become part of another social group or state. 2. To learn thoroughly. 3. To absorb into the body after digestion

Canopy- covering over a bed, throne etc or held on poles over a person

Civic- the official life and affairs of a town or a citizen

Concomitantly-

Confine- 1. to keep ( …) within limits 2. To shut (…) up

Covet - to desire eagerly

Debilitate-  to weaken.

Depict- to describe

Engender- to be the cause of

Fervent- showing strong feeling

Implore- bønnfalle

Inalienable-  cannot be taken away ( the right to vote)

Inextricably- that cannot be solved or escaped from

Permeate- to pass, flow or spread

Pertain- to belong to something as a part

Pervasive- tending to pervade (To spread (something) through every part of it.)

Precept- a rule or guide for behaviour

Redundant- no longer needed.

Render- to cause

Surge- forward or upward movement, to grow quickly

Thwarts- to oppose or prevent (something)successfully

Transition- changing from one condition to another

Tuition- teaching a person (tutor)

Vendor- en som selger (varer) fra stand.  (Vending Machine- betalingsautomat m t.d. sigaretter)

Vocation- 1. The feeling that one is called to a certain kind of work. 2. A special ability. (3. A person’s trade or profession. )
